A Neglected Boy “The Twins” XXXVII jacoblion@tutanota Morning, oh yes it was morning and the sun today was a special gift as it cast its most beautiful rays-of-light on Kori with his arms over “The Twins”. The bedroom door was open just slightly and the aroma of fresh coffee was just entering the room. Someone was already up and, in the kitchen, sending signals toward our bedroom. I so very quietly slid from the bed leaving Kori and our sweet little cherubs to dream of dragons dancing along the shores of some mystical bay off in Neverland. I just had to peek in the kitchen to see just what wonderful person had been so thoughtful to have already made fresh coffee. My head just rounded the corner when my eyes met this most handsome teenager as he handed me my fresh hot cup of vanilla coffee. OMG, this boy is gorgeous. Ethan stood looking at me with a smile on his face and the sexiest pair of Airknit HD boxer briefs in brilliant blue. These briefs have their trademark supportive flyless pouch that showed exactly what he had. My eyes were trying not to stare but it was hard not to and I knew I was beginning to have a slight problem. Ethan broke my trance when he said . . . . “Jake looks like the coffee is warming things up a bit.” . . . . I know it had nothing to do with the coffee. I looked at Ethan and thanked him for the morning coffee. Ethan had this very cute devilish smile as he said . . . . “You’re welcome Jake I knew if I made coffee you would be the first one up and I wanted to make the morning special for you.” . . . . I looked at Ethan and figured I’d tease him a bit too as I said . . . . “Well, Ethan not only was the coffee special but the briefs to go along with the coffee were quite special as well.” . . . . Ethan was slightly red and he had the cutest smile and I noticed he had to turn toward the counter as the pouch in the briefs seemed to be filling. I couldn’t help myself and said . . . . “It’s Ok Ethan, just happens a lot to teens doesn’t it?” . . . . Ethan laughed a little and said . . . . “Yeah, but seems to happen more since I met Lorenzo.” Ethan filled his cup, of coffee, and sat at the table with me and began to ask a question when all of a sudden there was an explosion of rug-rats whirling through the door like some tornado landing right on my lap. In stereo “morning dad” then turning their attention to Ethan . . . . “you promised French toast last night, right?” . . . . Ethan was stuck and he knew the rug-rats would never let him get away with anything else. Ethan decided to tease just a little and reached for the box of Oatmeal ……… Oh my! ….. the rug-rats were all over Ethan like fleas on a hound dawg. The excitement brought a very tired looking Kori to the kitchen but his frown turned to a big smile in less than a second. Kyle and Justin let Ethan up and ran to hug Kori with a big “Good morning” Kiss. Ethan got Justin and Kyle to help with breakfast and I poured a fresh cup of coffee Kori had a hot cup of tea that looked as dark as my coffee. We had just sat at the table when the phone rang. Kori answered to phone and from our end, it really sounded like great news as we heard Kori say . . . . “Mr. Hallas that is great news so Ethan will need to appear with you today at 2 pm in family court and then you think that will wrap things up for quite some time; …… yes Mr. Hallas we will all be there and thank you so much.” All eyes were on Kori who had a huge smile. Kori looked at Ethan then gave him a big hug and said; “Welcome to the family kid, that is if its what you want.” …… The kitchen erupted in cheers and hugs and for some reason the French toast tasted better than ever. The rug-rats hung on Ethan and kept saying . . . . “We gots a brother, we gots a big brother.” As they danced bursa escort around the kitchen. It was now just the formality of appearing before the family court judge to have the guardianship papers signed and the Ethan will be officially ours until he is 21. The day passed so quickly and at 2 pm we found ourselves before the same family court judge that we were in front of when we adopted Ji-ho and Ji-hu. Mr. Hallas stood and began to address the court when the judge said . . . . “Mr. Hallas please take a seat.” The judge looked directly at Kyle and Justin and then asked them to approach. The boys looked a little nervous but did as they were asked. The judge looking at Justin and Kyle asked . . . . “So, how have you boys been and do you like your new home with Dr. Roberts and Dr. Preydon?” . . . . rug-rats with big smiles answered . . . . “Oh yes we love our Dads and you know we been to Italy and we seen the tower of Pisa you know its not pizza it’s the tower of Pisa.” ……. The judge laughed and the boys were looking at Kori, Ethan, and me when the judge asked . . . . “Well, it looks like your family might get bigger …. that is if you want that teenager to join you.?” … OMG Justin and Kyle were so excited to tell the judge that Ethan will be their brother and he’s a great brother and, and ……… the judge interrupted the boys and asked Ethan to approach ……………. and then asked Ethan . . . . “Ethan do you wish to follow your father’s request and live with Dr. Roberts and Dr. Preydon as your guardians until you’re 21?” . . . . Ethan was about to answer when the judge continued with a very big smile . . . . “Ethan you do realize that means you will have to contend with those 2 little characters as well?” . . . . Ethan looked at the judge and said. . . . “Oh you mean my brothers over there . . . . Well, they kind of grow on you plus I love them so sure I can put up with them.” ………. There was a loud smack of the gavel and we heard the judge say . . . . “Done!” Mr. Hallas only needed to approach the bench to retrieve the papers signed by the judge. He shook hands with everyone and said he would be in touch with the final documents in about a week or 10 days. It was off to celebrate. We were just getting in the SUV when Kori’s phone buzzed he answered and put the phone on speaker so we could all hear …….. “Hi Kori this is Peter’s mom and I just wanted to give you the good news ……… there were 20 seconds of silence then ……….. Kori is Jake listening? . . . . Kori said “Everyone is listening” . . . then we heard . . . . “The farm is yours and I have put the key on the nail under the back porch where you used to hide it. I hope you will drive up and see it soon.” Before Kori knew what he was saying he said . . . . “Well be there in a few hours.” …….. then there was a lot of noise in the car and then he looked at me and I was not about to try to change his mind. We all decided to run home change clothes, pack a bag for each of us and grab sleeping bags and pillows and hit the road. It was just 3 pm and it is only an hour and forty-five minutes to Ashfield, Mass. Even with going home to grab stuff we could be there by 6. We were all so excited I told Ethan to take Kyle and Justin and load and start the car while Kori and I checked the house. I just wanted a minute with Kori. As we reached the door, I pulled Kori to me and we just held each other for a minute. …… We were going home. …… I think Kori and I have always regarded Ashfield as home and New Haven was a place to work and live but Ashfield was really home. We were in the SUV in minutes and on the road north to Ashfield. Justin, Kyle and Ethan were excited and just asked one question after another. Who would sleep where? Were there horses in the field? Can they go fishing? The questions continued and only interrupted by the phone calls from Alina asking how we were and did everything go Ok at court and that Marco and Lorenzo really missed Justin, Kyle and Ethan. Then back to more bursa escort bayan questions from Ethan and the rug-rats only to have the phone buzz with Peter and Neil on the other end congratulating us. The towns along the way had changed over the years and we knew Ashfield would have changed as well. The boys had all looked at the photos in the album and it was just about 6 when we turned into the driveway. We were both excited and slightly disappointed at our first glance of the property. Everything looked much smaller than we had remembered. The trees were now much taller and fuller. All the shrubs around the porch had grown and were now above the porch deck. The grass looked as if it needed cutting for weeks and the house needed painting as it looked tired. I think my heart nearly broke when I looked at the barn. Kori could tell how I was hurt and simply gave me a hug and said . . . . “It can all be just like we remembered it with just a little love.” He was right. The boys had all disappeared and Kori and I went to find them investigating the barn. It was time to take a look in the house. Kori found the key and gave it to Ethan. Ethan along with the rug-rats entered first as Kori and I sat on the back steps. Soon the boys returned with their findings and their judgment was ………… “It’s Awesome!” …… Kori and I waked in and it was much like walking back in time. Almost nothing had been changed. Yes, the furniture was gone and there were new appliances in the kitchen but they had not changed the rooms or enlarged or torn out any walls it was the same farmhouse we left 20 years ago. The rug-rats wanted to know where their room was and so Kori and I showed Kyle and Justin to what used to be Kori’s old room and Ethan would have the guest room now his bedroom and was reminded to make sure he shut the bathroom door when taking a shower. Now it was upstairs to the play/train room and to our surprise somethings remained but it sure did need a good cleaning. Then the biggest surprise was down in the basement to find the music room had not been disturbed and was almost soundproof. Kori said . . . . “Jake let’s go see your old bedroom” …… I was almost afraid to see what had been the most important part of the house and my life with Kori. It was the memory of holding Kori with my arms around him and the many nights he fell asleep with tears and the memory of his mother. We walked through the kitchen and through the small hall then Kori opened the bedroom door as he had done a thousand times before. I took a step into the room; it had not changed it looked a bit smaller than I remembered but then again, the rooms in the house in New Haven were all much bigger than the rooms here. The big question was what was the master bath going to look like. I opened the door ……….. Wow! It had not been changed. Kori poked me and said . . . . “Showers tonight!” Ok, it was almost 7 and we were hungry so it was off to Ashfield Lakehouse for dinner then a quick run to Wal-Mart for some cots or inflatable beds. Dinner was just as Kori and I remembered it and we all shared chicken wings then the boys had burgers and Kori and I had fish and chips and all was excellent. We were home from Wal-Mart by 9 pm with inflatable beds and a few pots and pans and other supplies like popcorn, 40inch TV and HD videos the boys had picked out. It was nearly 11 the beds were up; the water was hot and it was time for showers and bed. Kori had a very devilish grin and I knew what he was thinking and so was I. We all said goodnight and Kori and I headed for that very large tub. Nice new towels and 2 large bottles of strawberry shampoo should last 2 or 3 days. Kori adjusted the shower to just slightly more than a mist. The water was perfect the ceiling heat lamps were on and I was just about to step in when I heard . . . . “Dad there’s something in our room.” . . . . Kori answered Kyle . . . . “there’s nothing in your room go to bed” . . . . right? No. . . . . “Dad there is something in our escort bursa room and it’s making noise. Did you hear me Dad?” I got shorts on and walked down the hall checked on Ethan who was smart enough to be asleep and then to the twin’s room. I listened and heard nothing, then sure enough there was this squeaking noise then it stopped, then started again. Kori was behind me and Justin and Kyle hiding behind Kori. ……. Ok! Enough of this I flipped rug-rat’s bed up on its side and brought it down to our room. I wanted a shower and to go to bed and sleep! Just sleep! We can find the squeak tomorrow. Apparently, Kori found the situation quite funny as he couldn’t seem to stop chuckling to himself. It was morning and the sun was like a soft spotlight on Kori and the rug-rats as they continued sleeping so soundly. Like years past it still amazes me how beautiful they are in the morning light with the sun’s golden rays surrounding them. They appear as angels so sweet and innocent, that is until they are fully awake and then who knows what form they will inherit for the day; angelic, sweet or devilish; oh, I’m speaking of Justin and Kyle heaven knows Kori will wake like a bear. I rolled out of bed with just enough noise to wake the rug-rats who charged naked from their bed to the bathroom before I could take 2 steps. I could hear that familiar sound of pee and more pee and a little more where do they keep all that pee in such small bodies. Ahhhh my turn ….. Oh what a relief it is. Kori was next as Kyle and Justin ran down the hall fetching some clothes and, on the way back, charged without knocking, into Ethan’s room to wake him; not the best timing today as Ethan was engaged in some teenage private activity. Ethan hollered and rug-rats just said . . . . “sorry” turned and closed the door; it had not been the first time they had interrupted Ethan while what appears a morning ritual. Today it was a real New England breakfast. Eggs, bacon and lots of it, home fries, toast, Coffee, tea, juice, and milk. The plan for today was to try to get the yard looking better, fix fencing around the upper pasture and the barn cut the shrubs back from around the porch and play horseshoes. Kori noticed that we had only been there for a few hours but for some reason everyone looked different; more relaxed and healthier. In the barn to our delight was a riding lawnmower and Ethan claimed it very quickly; there was a weed eater and with some new gas and cleaning it was working. We worked till 1 pm found the branch that caused that awful squeak and cut it down and then had a good lunch and it was back to work. The yard tools we found although old were in good shape and we even fixed a yard wagon that the rug-rats claimed as theirs. The wagon was handy and it was loaded and unloaded 50 times or more and Kori and I fixed it so it could be pulled by the lawnmower to Justin and Kyle’s delight. It was just about 4 when a pickup truck drove in; it was a neighbor that had only lived here about 3 years. He introduced himself and said that he heard we had bought back the farm and volunteered to come over and cut the upper and lower pastures for $50.00. Deal. After our neighbor left, we decided to see if we could get the hot tub cleaned and working. Neither Kori nor I could believe how much real help we had with that job and it only took about an hour and it was filled and the heater was on. It wasn’t the one we had originally it was bigger and perhaps only 3 years old. Soon the water was hot, not, it was warm and some bodies had swimsuits and some bodies didn’t. One body had like soccer shorts on and what was inside was quite obvious. Ethan just said . . . . “It happens I have no control” . . . . and the rug-rats couldn’t help but to point and giggle. We ordered pizza for dinner, watched some scary movie and off to bed with the twins agreeing to sleep in their own room and to remember to knock on bedroom doors before entering.
